    Terrific Bang for Buck
I have now bought 3 of these, so impressed with the glass of the first one I bought and the next 2 were just as good, so it doesn't appear to be a flash in the pan; if you can manage without illuminated ret (which I suspect is the reason for these 'special edition') and they prove reliable (who wants to keep sending scopes back?) then they're probably the best bang for the buck out there at the moment (and I spent a lot of time looking and researching)!

I'm shooting with sub12 air rifle, up to 70-80yrds and the image is super for my eyes, very sharp, no discernible chromatic aberration and I can comfortably shoot at x25 for the whole session; ret is a little oddball, but you soon get used to it and even at 25x I don't even notice the xmas tree is there, unless you actually need to use it - the centre dot is an ideal size for target work. At 5x, ret is just still useable, but as expected, it does become considerably smaller and you have to work a bit harder.

Compared to a couple of dearer scopes I have/had:
Riton X7 4-32x56 ED - very slightly better glass than the X5, but so slight as to make little difference, same turrets & build quality - in fact my X7 had to be returned under warranty and as they was a wait for replacements, I opted to go with an X5 instead!

Element Titan 5-25x56ED - Turrets are slightly better than the X5/X7 and optically is just about as good as the X5 to my eyes, but with a tiny hint of CA (not much but far more noticeable than the X5, which has none). I'm very happy with the Titan, but it is certainly not worth the £350-400 delta in cost and I'd happily have gone with (another) Riton X5 and saved the cash, if I'd known then what I know now.

    Outstanding
OPW's Black friday event has got me again I'm pleased to say. I bought the X7 which is hugely impressive so much so I've bought its smaller brother the X5.

Build quality and optics are just as impressive as the X7 and my Sightron/Nightforce scopes, hard to believe you can buy these for the price, just go for it you won't regret it.

Grab one while you can !!
No beating around the bush review. Hands down the bargain scope on the UK net right now. For whatever reason we're getting the non-illuminated version but does that really matter ?

You'll not get sharper, clearer glass without spending a bucket load more. Hard not to recommend at this price. I've tried a whole bunch of £200-300 scopes and the X5 outshines them all. With my other scopes I get chromatics, smudging and colour blur, especially in bright light, not with the Riton.

A no brainer if you have the funds, the mag range suits, and you can live with the PSR reticle. The ret is well implemented though. Useable at low mag and not the size of a marker pen at x25. It won't beat the £1000+ brigade but a brilliant scope for the money

Excellent value & quality for a bargain price
To start with i will agree with the previous revie(Mr Gain) the Riton is a truly great scope, clearly something of an unknown quantity in the UK, but the same was said of the Element scopes when they were released 18months+ ago.

I too currently have an Element Helix, which I think is excellent, but I also have a Hawke Sidewinder mk2 & an Athlon Argos all are superb in their own way, what caught my attention withe the Riton, obviously the price but over the last couple of months or so when the Riton seemed to be suddenly available at a couple of Optics retailers i have been watching & seeing/reading all the reviews, predominately from the US where Riton hail from & all were very positive

One of the other factors that prompted my purchase was the 34mm body, I just had to give it a go, although I have only had mine a couple of days & only been testing it by using all the scope functions, zoom eye relief etc.,all are excellent & I'm very pleased with my purchase,to paraphrase Mr Gain "it's stupidly good value and a brilliant bit of kit"

Although for the life in me, I have no idea what the "special edition" refers to?

    Bloody fantastic!!
I wanted another FFP scope following a huge disappointment over the MTC King Cobra. This Riton X5 was gob-smackingly better!

I'll mainly be using it for benchrest on <12Flbs and FAC air. I was considering the Element TItan, having been so impressed with the Helix in SFP and loving the APR-1C reticle. However, this R5 is a lot of scope for around £400 less, so I had to give the Riton a try.

Obviously with that kind of price difference between the Titan and R5, there's going to be some things that don't compare, even though the R5's undiscounted RRP isn't a million miles off the Titan.

The R5's turrets aren't as tactile as those on the Element scopes, which are just brilliant. They do the job, but I'd liken it to safe-cracking, whereas the Elements' ratchet like the most expensive torque wrench you'll even use - super positive, compared to the R5's subtle but accurate clicks.

The reticle is great. The centre dot is fine enough for target work, everything is crisp and clear, and even dialled right down to 5x it's still very usable in the field - unlike the MTC King Cobra which goes from invisible to marker pen across the magnification range. You can pick up the R5's reticle very easily against trees and foliage, so I'd have no hesitation hunting with this scope.

There's just enough elevation (21.5 MRAD) for how I've got it mounted at a 30m zero, but not enough to dial out much beyond that. I may have to consider shimming the rings (yuk) to give me 5 MRAD extra, or invest in some height adjustable rings. The MTC ran out of elevation for comparison. Useless.

One observation (and I don't know if this is true of all scopes towards the limit of their elevation), the sight picture was presenting a crescent at the bottom because I was about 0.6 MRAD off the elevation limit. Optically centred it was fine, so possibly another reason to shim/height adjust.

Glass is excellent. There is slight blurring at the extremities, but nothing to write home about. On 12x, the 10 and 12 mil numbers were ever-so-slightly off focus for me, but that could easily be my eyes or the fact I was so far off optical centre. Overall, though; bright, clean, crisp and so, so, so much better than I expected for this price point.

In all, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this scope. It's stupidly good value and a brilliant bit of kit!
